Author Guidelines

Canada Watch highlights the scholarship of members of the Robarts Centre community generally through invitations and the choices made by Guest Editors.

Authors will receive guidance from the Managing Editor and Guest Editors on how to adapt their manuscript to the journal’s specifications.

In terms of general format:

  • Canada Watch articles are normally around 750-1000 words.
  • Articles include subheads and a short (two sentence) author bio.
  • The Works Cited section (not references) and Endnotes are kept to a bare minimum.
  • Formatting and Style guide follows APA 7th edition (exception: initials are closed up, not spaced). As per APA 7th, authors will omit the place of publication from book references and URL access dates.
  • Authors will follow the Canadian Oxford Dictionary 2nd edition for spelling, hyphenation, and capitalization.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
